Perth indie-punk favourites Surf Shop Cops are back with “Weird Energy,” the second single taken from their upcoming sophomore album due for release in 2026.
April saw Surf Shop Cops release their infectious single “All My Friends,” which received glowing reviews from critics, and saw the trio tour regional WA from Geraldton to Bunbury, with packed shows in Perth and Fremantle in between. This June, they’re loading up Mike’s Rodeo again for an even longer drive to Albany and Esperance, proving their commitment to bringing live music to WA’s regional towns. The “Weird Energy” tour will kick off at The Bird in Northbridge for another pumping headline show, followed by a set at RTRFM’s annual Fremantle Winter Music Festival.
Lyrically, Weird Energy tells the story of nights out at gigs in the city, hearing scenesters boasting about their mild success and vast industry connections, before remembering that we’ve all been guilty of this, and the embarrassment that follows. It’s driven home with a massive sing along of the song’s title, which has been a fan favourite at shows for years. Sonically, the track shows off the band’s dynamic range and eclectic influences, which shine with the help of Ron Pollard’s production. Weird Energy is simultaneously Surf Shop Cops’ heaviest, and catchiest single to date.
Weird Energy will be available on all online streaming services on MONDAY JUNE 16TH 2025.
