Round two is here.
The Albany Shantymen return to Six Degrees Albany on Tuesday 17 March, bringing big voices, bigger laughs and the kind of full-room singalongs that have become their trademark.
After a roaring first session this month, the crew is back to lead another night of booming harmonies, maritime storytelling and audience-powered choruses and once again, it’s completely free.
Who Are The Albany Shantymen?
The Albany Shantymen are one of Western Australia’s best-known sea shanty groups, proudly representing Albany’s rich coastal heritage through powerful vocal performance.
Specialising in traditional maritime working songs, the group revive historic sea shanties with energy, humour and an unmistakable sense of camaraderie. What began as songs sung aboard ships to coordinate sailors’ labour has evolved into a modern live music experience built around community and participation.
Their performances are defined by:
- Deep, resonant harmonies
- Call-and-response choruses
- Rhythmic, foot-stomping energy
- Light-hearted banter and storytelling
- A welcoming, all-inclusive atmosphere
There are no backing tracks. No elaborate staging. Just strong voices and shared momentum.
What Makes a Shantymen Night Different?
A night with The Albany Shantymen isn’t something you quietly observe it’s something you’re pulled into.
From the first chorus, the room starts to shift. Strangers join in. Tables clap in rhythm. Pints rise instinctively on cue.
It’s loud in the best possible way.
Sea shanties are built around repetition and rhythm, making them easy to join even if you’ve never heard the song before. That’s part of the magic within minutes, the entire venue feels like a single choir.
And on a Tuesday night, that kind of energy hits differently.

Why The Albany Shantymen Keep Filling the Room
The Albany Shantymen have built a strong local following because their shows feel authentic and communal. In a music scene filled with amplified bands and DJs, there’s something refreshingly powerful about raw, layered vocals filling a room without instruments.
They don’t just perform songs they create atmosphere.
Every return performance brings new energy, new jokes and new crowd moments. That unpredictability keeps audiences coming back for more.
Round two this March promises even louder harmonies and even stronger participation.
